Verse of the Year

Make me know your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.
Psalm 25:4-5

My son's new skill... also why he'll be wearing bubble wrap from now on...

This evening, I decided to be a lazy Mom. We had a very long day and Gabriel hasn't had much time at home, so we did just that after VBS. We stayed home. It was durn near 90 in the North Country today and while that isn't a big deal to the rest of you... it is up here. Most places don't even have air conditioning. They don't need it most of the time. So when it gets hot up here... its miserable.

I will take a moment for a side story... I told my husband this morning that the forecast for the 1st day of VBS was 88 and he didn't respond. I then had to remind him that 88 is considered HOT here. He "LOL"d and said something to the effect of him wearing a jacket when it gets down to the 80's in Iraq. Nice... He's in for a shock when he comes home then!

Anywho... after about 4 hours in the NON-air conditioned portion of our chapel, we were wiped. (Ya... let's not hold VBS in the air conditioning the 3rd week of August. Really.) The rest of the day we chilled in our air conditioning. I kept Gabriel in because of his heat rashes. I've almost got all of his rashes under control right now and I don't need another outbreak for at least a few days. I mean, really. I'd like a normal looking kid for a while.

The oven was not an option either tonight, so we ordered pizza. I'm afraid someday my children will be happy when Daddy deploys because it will mean that we eat pizza and watch movies a lot. I'll have to keep an eye on that one. We really don't do it that much. Today, though, cooking was just not a option. Too hot for stoves and ovens in my book. So pizza it was!

So we ate and played for a while. Then Gabriel was fussy, but it wasn't time to go to bed. We ate kind of early, so that might have been a problem. He ate lunch late and I was trying to feed him early. After dinner, he was just fussy. I decided to go ahead and let him watch some t.v. so that I could get some things done on my office side of the room, too. On Demand has Noggin on the pre-school channel and he likes Jack's Big Music Show. I like it, too, because he can learn a little about instruments and music. :)

I was sitting in the back part of the living room which has been blocked (up until today) by the large arm chair, the ottoman and the couch making a L across the middle of the living room to the opposite wall. I went to the kitchen and came back in to find Gabriel on his hands and knees ON TOP OF THE OTTOMAN. He didn't know how to do this 5 minutes before this! I knew that he was trying and had thought about how I was going to rearrange my furniture, but really was hoping I had more time.

I can count on 1 hand the number of weeks until my husband comes home, so this could have waited. Because honestly, I can't drive to the ER and I see broken bones in our future. Maybe its just me, but really... I thought we were going to have some tonight. At one point, he tumbled off to the floor and I thought it was going to be bad, but no he just giggled and got right back up. The next tumble I tried to catch, but only accomplished putting a huge scratch up his back. It was bleeding. That's not good.

The one and only time we've had to take Gabriel to the ER, Jerry was home on R&R. He drove. I can't drive when my child is hurt, sick or... or... whatever! Just! Get! Us! There! Now! I sit in the back, make the calls to my Mommy and other prayer warriors that love us and generally try not to panic. So really... I wish he would have waited for Jerry to come home. I'm not sure that I can take this one on by myself.

He's in bed now and I've rearranged the furniture with the help of Sheryl and Anthony, who came over after I put Gabriel to bed. I have no idea what I would do without them. Really. I don't. I wouldn't have gotten through this last year without them.

Well, I better get off here. I have laundry to do and stuff before tomorrow. Which should be just as fun! Yay! I also have the PWOC pitch in tomorrow. And its going to be 85 and I volunteered to bring lasagna! Yay! LOL Maybe I should have volunteered to bring the ice cream?

Hope you all have a great day!
