So all week we've been talking about it with Gabriel. Friday night is the night. He's going to sleep in his big boy bed. He's been really good about going to bed. We tell him its time and he runs down and stands in his room by the big bed. So we thought it was time, right?
Ummmm.... no.
At 7:50 when Diego was over, we told him it was time. He took my hand, we got Paci out of the drawer and walked down to his room. We helped him climb up into it and he thought it was cool. I turned out the light and we said prayers and gave kisses. Then we left the room like we always do.
He cried. I expected this. He cried for 30 minutes or so. I went in to talk to him. I fixed the blankets and gave him his blanket from his crib. He wouldn't lay down. I left, but I left the hall light on and the door open. He started screaming.
And then it got quiet. Maybe he fell asleep?
A few minutes later, we hear little feet and "Hi!" I pick him up and say "Its time for bed. Let's go back." He starts the most pitiful cry I've seen out of him.
You know what... he's not 2 yet. We're not pregnant. There's no pressing need to put him in the big bed if he's scared of it. So we asked if he wanted to go to bed in his crib. He said "Peesh" in such a pitiful tone that we put him back in his crib.
Maybe next month.
I am a believer in keeping kids in the crib as long as possible. We moved Lukas right after he turned 2 only because we were expecting Ava. He was fine in a twin bed w/a bedrail at that age. Ava was in the crib until we moved here. She was just shy of 2 1/2. She went into a toddler bed until she was 4 because she tried to squeeze her head between the rails of the very un-safe twin bed Grandma bought used for her. :) Anyway...I say keep him where he's happy. I've known people to keep kids in their cribs til they were 3 even. That used to be the norm.
ReplyDeleteYa, the only reason we even tried is because I thought he wanted to. He crawls in it, lays on the pillow and says "NiNight." He runs to it (or he did before Friday night!) when its bedtime. He just seemed interested in it. Oh, well... like I said... we've got time. ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like he might just enjoy playing on it for now and that might warm him up to it eventually. We, too, kept Breanna in the crib as long as possible - until she really tried to get out, I got tired of her diving headfirst INTO the crib only to whine to get out, and I was pregnant. I figure, keep them trapped as long as you can!!! She was 1.5 months shy of being 3.
