So we have weathered our first cold with the Boy. For those of you saying "he's 17.5 months old and had his first cold?! Really?! What did you do? Keep him in some sort of bubble?"
Yes... yes, I did.
Not really. He just didn't really get much in the way of a common cold. We had Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease, but not just a cold. And not anything that he then chose to share with the rest of us. But I believe there is light at the end of this body fluids filled tunnel.
He's a little raspy, but we need humidifierS in this place. Yes, plural... living in the cave that the Army has designed for the peon soldiers with only one child does not make for state of the art ventilation systems. Therefore, we need some other means of breathing at night. Maybe some things that say "Hepa" on them?
I did the best with the cold. However, maybe that is because I am already on a drug regimen that Heroine dealers would be impressed with. Thank you, Dr. Yecies, allergy doctor extraordinaire! I take fexofenadine twice a day, Sudafed at night, Nasonex in the morning and Ibuprofen if this list gives me some sort of headache. And this list is for when I am NOT already sick.
I am allergic to pine trees. And we live in the middle of Whinnie the Pooh's forest. Enough said.
So, not only was I already covered in the drug department, I took care of the husband, too. For a nominal fee, of course. (He gave the Boy a bath. Drugs do not come without strings, you know.) O.k. Doctors that may read this (*cough Cody cough*), I know that I am not supposed to share my prescription meds. HOWEVER, having dealt with Guthrie Medical Clinic enough, I knew that they have some secret deal with the makers of Sudafed. If you cough, sneeze or wheeze on this base, you will get Sudafed. I have eleventy-hundred bottles of said sudafed from different bouts of sinus issues this past spring to prove it. So I drugged the husband.
The Boy had his own medication regimen from the Pediatrician. Don't worry, Cody. I know better than to give Gabriel big-boy-drugs no matter how much I want us to all just go back to sleep at 3 a.m.
I am now wondering how long and how much scrubbing it will take to get the smell of Vick's Baby Rub off of him. It smells good, mind you, but still. I like him to smell like a baby.
He also has 2 new teeth, or at least 2 that I can see. (Because heaven forbid we either JUST get teeth or JUST get sick. No, let's do both! Good times, good times...) I am no longer willing to put my finger into the lion's den and lose it to check for teeth. We will go to a dentist for that soon. I am guessing that 2 teeth came in based on the amount of drool and the fact that I can see them when he smiles because they are up front. There may be more teeth in the back. A trained professional can check for that, though.
O.k. so for now, and until things that say "hepa" are purchased, I need to go steam up the bathroom and see if we can bring the Boy's voice back. Darn... I have to take a long hot shower... poor me!
